
The French „Yellow West“ movement has continued its protests against the government of President Emmanuel Macron today in several cities. After outrage at the temporary arrest of „yellow-vampire“ spokesman Eric Drouet, activists in Paris announced a march from city hall to parliament for the afternoon.
A rally was also planned on the Champs-Elysees. Further protests were expected in Bordeaux, Toulouse and Lyon.
Drouet for ten hours in police custody
The police arrested Drouet on Wednesday evening near the Champs-Elysees for allegedly organizing an unannounced demonstration. He stayed in police custody for about ten hours. After his release, he criticized his arrest as arbitrary and denied calling for a demonstration.
In the eastern department of Saone-et-Loire, security forces arrested 18 „yellow vests“ last night who tried to block a logistics center belonging to the US online retail giant Amazon. According to the prefecture, they belonged to a group of about 60 protesters. Of these, therefore, some stones threw in the direction of the police, a gendarme was injured.
