Iran has said it has contacted the international police agency Interpol to arrest US President Donald Trump and dozens of other US government officials. The Iranian prosecutor accused them of being involved in the fatal drone attack on General Kassem Soleimani. „These people are accused of murder,“ the state news agency Irna quoted prosecutor Ali Kassi Mehr yesterday.
Trump is at the top of the list. „Law enforcement against him continues after his term,“ said Kassi Mehr. The Iranian judiciary has already issued arrest warrants against the 36 US politicians and military officers, the Misan Online news agency, which is linked to the Iranian judicial authorities and quoted the prosecutor, said.
Kassi Mehr called on Interpol to issue red tenders against the accused. These are not arrest warrants, however, such alerts are issued to people who are sought because of a court conviction or a prosecutor’s indictment.
„Wouldn’t consider requests of this nature“
„Interpol would not consider requests of this nature,“ the AFP international police organization said without directly confirming whether Iran had contacted Interpol. Interpol refers to Article 3 of its constitution, which prohibits any interference of „political, military, religious or racist“ nature. The US Special Representative for Iran, Brian Hook, described Iran’s action as a „propaganda maneuver“.
