The World Health Organization (WHO) reported more new coronavirus infections worldwide than ever before within 24 hours. The number was close to 300,000, as the WHO reported last night. In total, more than 21 million infections have been reported worldwide since the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 became known at the end of last year.
According to experts, the number of unreported cases is considerable. In some countries, many people are tested for the virus, in others only a few people.
The specific figures as of 10:00 a.m. (CEST) yesterday: 294,237 new cases within 24 hours, a total of 21,026,758 cases since the outbreak began. According to WHO statistics, 755,786 infected people died worldwide.
The previous record was set by the WHO on July 31, with just over 292,000 new cases reported within 24 hours. In absolute terms, the heavily populated countries USA, Brazil and India are the hardest hit countries with more than 100,000 new cases each within seven days.
