The World Health Organization (WHO) claims to be investigating allegations of sexual abuse in the Democratic Republic of the (DR) Congo. The WHO announced yesterday evening that reports of alleged sexual exploitation and abuse were „horrified“. The acts allegedly committed by people who have identified themselves as WHO employees should be “rigorously investigated”.
WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus ordered a thorough review of the allegations. The WHO did not say what the exact allegations were. Before that, the news site „The New Humanitarian“ published a report together with the Thomson Reuters Foundation, according to which 51 women Ebola workers from the WHO and aid organizations accused of sexual exploitation and abuse between 2018 and 2020. According to the report, the NGOs Oxfam, World Vision and Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) were named.
