According to the World Health Organization (WHO), European countries should already prepare for a second deadly wave of coronavirus infections.

It was „time for preparation, not for celebrations,“ said WHO Regional Director for Europe, Hans Kluge, to the British newspaper „The Telegraph“ today. He responded to the easing of measures against the pandemic in several countries.

The WHO Regional Director expressed particular concern about the possibility of a “double wave”. „In that case, we could have a second wave of Covid and seasonal flu or measles.“ Many children were not vaccinated against measles, warned Kluge. The countries would now have to use the time to strengthen their healthcare system and, for example, to expand capacity in hospitals.

The number of cases fell in countries such as Great Britain, France and Italy, the expert said. But that doesn’t mean that the pandemic is coming to an end.
