US President Donald Trump responded positively to a journalist questioning at the G-7 summit in Biarritz on whether he is questioning his decision to escalate the trade dispute with China. Above all US media had taken up the statement immediately and reported that Trump questioned his own China policy. The White House was violently opposed.
Press spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham stressed that Trump had been „completely misunderstood“. Trump had answered, „Yes, of course.“ And added, in hindsight, he always worries whether his decision was the right one. Grisham now emphasized, „he (Trump) just regrets that he has not raised the tariffs more.“
In Biarritz, Trump is pressured by the other G-7 heads of state and government to stop fueling the trade dispute amid the slowing economy.
