The US retailer Walmart has sued the electric car pioneer and solar system manufacturer Tesla after fires at about seven of its outlets. The solar panels had triggered the fires, which had caused major damage, Walmart said yesterday.
It was a breach of contract and was a result of years of neglect, it said in the published court documents. Tesla designed, installed and promised to operate the systems safely on the roofs of hundreds of Walmart supermarkets.
Walmart has equipped about 240 supermarkets with SolarCity solar systems. The company was acquired by Tesla in 2016. From Tesla there was initially no opinion.
