Poland’s Attorney General and Attorney General Zbigniew Ziobro has passed a vote of no confidence in parliament. The majority of the deputies voted yesterday evening late against a request from the opposition.

She accuses the minister in the cabinet of the national-conservative government of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, to weaken the rule of law in favor of party interests and thereby to promote a „Polexit“. The motion was doomed to failure, as the ruling party Law and Justice (PiS) has an absolute majority in parliament.

The National Conservatives have comprehensively reformed the judiciary since their seizure of power in 2015 and, according to critics, have subordinated themselves to it. The EU Commission sees fundamental values in danger and has been conducting a rule of law case against the country since 2016. 233 MPs rejected the liberal-conservative opposition’s motion, 177 voted in favor, 23 abstained, according to the agency PAP.
