The volcano Mount Agung has erupted on the Indonesian holiday island of Bali. Ash clouds rose from the crater for about three minutes, according to the Indonesian volcanic authority. However, lava was not spotted. However, the authorities called on residents and tourists to avoid the danger zone with a radius of four kilometers around the crater.
The volcano Agung, around 70 kilometers from the popular resort of Kuta, has been active again since 2017. Most recently, dozens of flights had failed in June due to an eruption of the volcano. His last major outbreak in 1963 had killed nearly 1,600 people.
Anak Krakatau shrunk severely
Just over a week ago, the Indonesian volcano Anak Krakatau erupted and caused a deadly tsunami in the west of the island of Java next to Bali and in the south of Sumatra. At least 426 people were killed, more than 7,000 others were injured.
The Anak Krakatau lost more than two thirds of its height during the eruption. As the Indonesian volcanic authority announced yesterday, this results from a visual analysis. The original 338 meter high mountain measures only 110 meters, its top was no longer visible from the observation post.
