Venezuela-Maduro break into their embassy in Peru

Some 20 Venezuelans violently broke into their country’s embassy in Lima on Thursday (January 10th) during a demonstration against the new mandate of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. Peruvian riot police fired tear gas at anti-racist protesters.

The people who entered the diplomatic representation were dislodged and joined the other protesters to continue to chant slogans against Mr. Maduro, who began Thursday a second term of six years, denounced by a large part of the international community. „Maduro is not our president, he is a communist dictator, we must be here to protest against his swearing,“ told AFP before the Venezuelan Embassy Julieta Garcia, a protester who emigrated from Caracas nine months ago. „It’s a shame to see a man who has destroyed a country stay in government, and the military supports him,“ she added, crying.

„The government of Peru responsible“

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza has pointed out the responsibility of the Peruvian government to ensure the safety of Venezuelan diplomats accredited in Lima following the turmoil in front of the embassy.

„We hold the Government of Peru responsible for any consequences for our diplomatic staff and our Embassy in Lima, which were (Thursday) the subject of several attacks, including a group of bandits who entered our building, „ the minister said on Twitter.

The Venezuelan Embassy in Lima broadcast footage filmed by its surveillance cameras, where some 20 people from the street broke into the premises after forcing the entrance gate.
