Venezuela: arrests after call for resistance

In Venezuela, a group of army members has been arrested following a call for resistance to head of state Nicolas Maduro. The group had asked the population in a today spread in social networks video to go against Maduro „on the street“. However, according to the Venezuelan armed forces, the men were arrested shortly afterward and subjected to interrogation. The opposition expressed its support to the group.

According to the army, the „small group of attackers“ came from the Venezuelan national guard. The men had robbed some of the weapons stored in a military post in the eastern city of Petare. They had encountered „strong resistance“. They captured four soldiers from the base.

Subsequently, the group moved to a barracks in Cotiza in the north of the capital Caracas. There, the men had recorded the video in which they called for resistance to Maduro.
