In the power struggle in Venezuela, another army officer has opposed President Nicolas Maduro. Colonel and military doctor Ruben Paz Jimenez announced in a video released yesterday that he recognized President Juan Guaido as interim president.
„90 percent of the armed forces are dissatisfied,“ he said in the video. The soldiers would be „used“ to keep Maduro’s government in power.
In Venezuela raged for weeks a bitter power struggle between Maduro and the opposition parliamentary president Juan Guaido, who had proclaimed in January to the transitional president.
Maduro can rely on the support of the Venezuelan military. A week ago, Luftwaffe general Francisco Yanez had turned sides, the highest-ranking military official to date.
