Another arrest has been made in the case of the unarmed black man killed in Georgia. The 50-year-old William B. – a white man – was charged with, among other things, willful murder, as reported by the Criminal Police Office in Georgia (GBI) last night (local time). According to the lawyer for the family of the killed Ahmaud Arbery, Lee Merritt, William B. filmed the attack on February 23 from his car.
It took more than two months for the first two arrests for the murder of the 25-year-old. The investigation did not really get underway until the case attracted widespread attention due to the disturbing cell phone video. Arbery was killed while jogging. Attorney Merritt accuses William B. of having been armed and unlocking his gun while filming. In fact, a corresponding sound can be heard in the 14-second clip.
In early May, 64-year-old Gregory M. and his 34-year-old son Travis were arrested. They are charged with serious physical injury and murder. According to the investigators, the suspects faced Arbery with two firearms when he was out in the area. All three suspects are white.
