The dispute between the United States and China intensifies in the corona virus crisis. Tensions are now spreading to air traffic. The government in Washington plans to ban Chinese airlines from flying into the United States until further notice.

The regulation is expected to apply from June 16, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced today. It is intended as a retaliation measure and applies to Air China, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines and Hainan Airlines Holding.

The US accuses China of preventing US airlines from resuming air traffic to the People’s Republic. The airlines had suspended all passenger flights to China on their own initiative in February due to the pandemic.

Airlines are pressing for resumption

Companies such as Delta Air Lines and United Airlines are now pushing for connections to be resumed. They are based on fundamental agreements between the two countries and point out that Chinese companies continued their flights to the United States even during the coronavirus crisis.

The pandemic has increased tensions between the United States and the People’s Republic. US President Donald Trump accuses China of obscuring tactics in the outbreak of the corona virus.
