At least one US soldier was killed in an accident involving an amphibious vehicle off the coast of California. Eight other soldiers were still missing, the US Army said today. Yesterday, 16 soldiers – 15 marines and a marine – were on board the amphibious vehicle during an exercise near the island of San Clemente when water entered.
At first, eight soldiers were recovered. One of them was later pronounced dead and two others were treated in hospitals. One of the soldiers was in mortal danger.
The armed forces said the search continued for the other eight soldiers today. Numerous US Army and Coast Guard ships and helicopters were involved in the rescue and search operation.
