A US Navy military jet crashed in a desert area in California. In the accident yesterday morning (local time) were at least seven people on the ground slightly injured, said Patrick Taylor from the Death Valley National Park to the US channel NBC. The accident occurred, according to the Navy, near the Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake.

Fate of the pilot unexplained

So far nothing is known about the condition of the pilot. Several hours after the accident, the search continues, as a spokesman for the Naval Air Forces told the US media. It is an F / A-18E Super Hornet aircraft from Naval Air Station Lemoore, California.

The crash site is located on the western edge of Death Valley Park in a gorge known as the „Star Wars Canyon“. Many tourists would visit this location to observe military jet maneuvers, Taylor said.

People injured by flying parts

Eyewitnesses told eyewitness KABC that the jet had suddenly rammed one of the canyon walls and exploded. At a lookout point, some people were injured by flying machine parts. According to the sender, it should be visitors from France.

The China Lake Marine Test Site is located in a desert area near the village of Ridgecrest. The region was shaken by heavy earthquakes in early July. The base had been cleared after the earthquakes first.
