North Korea will not give up its nuclear program, according to US intelligence director Dan Coats. The country has signaled courtesy, he said today at a hearing before a Senate committee. For example, North Korea has not tested any rockets for more than a year and has mined some of its nuclear infrastructure.
Nevertheless, the leadership of the communist country considers nuclear weapons as crucial to its survival. In addition, some activities are to be observed, which speak against a complete denuclearization.
Another meeting between Trump and Kim
In a few weeks actually a summit meeting between US President Donald Trump and North Korea’s ruler Kim Jong Un should take place. Trump, on the other hand, said at his first summit meeting with Kim in Singapore last June that he was confident that North Korea would abide by the agreements and seek complete nuclear disarmament.
Trump had described it as a success that North Korea had carried out no nuclear tests for several months and had destroyed part of its nuclear facilities. The US president had stated that there should be another meeting with Kim at the end of February. However, neither the exact date nor the location for such a summit have been announced so far.
