After racist denunciations of the black US Democrat Ilhan Omar, the MP traveled to Ghana together with the chairman of the House of Representatives, the Democrat Nancy Pelosi. „They said ’send them back‘ but (…) they (Pelosi) went back with me,“ congressman Omar wrote yesterday on Twitter and Instagram.

She was grateful for the honor of returning to the mother continent of Africa. Omar was born in Somalia and came as a teenager to the US, where she was later naturalized.

Omar braved Trump

With her posts, Omar disseminated photos showing her with Pelosi in Ghana. Members of the US Congress had traveled to the African country this week to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the arrival of slaves from Africa in America.

Omar defied racist cries at a campaign run by US President Donald Trump in mid-July and Trump himself. In July, he had attacked Omar and three other Democrat Democratic congressmen on Twitter, sparking a racist debate. When he mentioned Omar’s name at the event, listeners had shouted, „Send ‚em back!“

The President had previously tweeted the politicians to go back to their supposed home countries and solve the problems there instead of giving the US good advice.
