The United Nations and the US government call for an end to the attacks by Libyan general Chalifa Haftar. The country is still heading for a civil war.
The US has called on Libyan General Chalifa Haftar to immediately stop the military offensive near Tripoli. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the US was very worried about the fighting. All parties involved were responsible for urgently de-escalating the situation, as the UN Security Council and G7 ministers stressed on 5 April.
„This unilateral military action against Tripoli threatens civilians and undermines the prospects for a better future for all Libyans,“ Pompeo said. There is no military solution to the conflict. A political solution is the only way to unify the country.
