Unnecessary trips to and from Belgium are now prohibited. A corresponding decision by the governments of the country and regions came into force today. Vacation and leisure trips are no longer allowed until March 1st. This is to prevent new CoV infections from being carried into the country. The ban is to be controlled in road, air, ship and rail traffic.
However, there are exceptions. The movement of goods should continue to flow. Visits to a spouse or partner, travel for work and study reasons, and for funerals of close relatives are also permitted. “We’re not building a wall around our country,” Prime Minister Alexander De Croo said on Friday after the decision. Anyone who makes use of one of the exceptions must fill out a „declaration of honor“.
The EU heads of state and government agreed last week to largely curb travel in view of the particularly feared variants of the corona virus. However, Belgium goes further with the ban.
