The conviction of ex-film producer Harvey Weinstein for sex crimes is a big step for victims of sexual violence, according to the United Nations. „I think it’s clear to everyone that the verdict is an important turning point,“ said Secretary General Antonio Guterres spokesman Stephane Dujarric in New York yesterday.
The head of the UN has always advocated that those responsible for violence against women be held accountable. Weinstein was found guilty on Monday by a jury for sexual assault and rape.
The 67-year-old is now facing up to 25 years in prison. Judge James Burke wants to announce the sentence on March 11. In Los Angeles, the former Hollywood mogul is facing another sexual crime trial.
