The United Nations has criticized the shooting by a US police officer on the African American Jacob Blake as „excessive violence“. Judging by the previously known and available video recordings, the procedure was very likely also discriminatory, said Rupert Colville of the UN Human Rights Office in Geneva today. That does not correspond to the international standards.

On Sunday, a police officer in Kenosha, Wisconsin, shot the 29-year-old family man several times in the back from close range. A video posted on the Internet shows Blake walking towards a car. He is followed by two policemen, one of whom shoots him when he opens the car door. According to his family, Blake is at least temporarily paralyzed.

The new case of police violence against an African American has again sparked mass protests, some of which turned into violence. Around 150 national guardsmen were therefore sent to Kenosha.
