“I am confident that Russia will try to organize a new“ gas war ”. The probability of this is very high. Our partners understand this opportunity and say that we need to prepare for this by increasing the gas reserves in our storage facilities, ”the minister said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
According to him, Europe is well aware of the „likelihood of Russian provocations.“
According to Klimkin, Ukraine and the EU insist that future contracts should be concluded on the basis of European rules.
“This means, in particular, that gas must be sold on the eastern border. Tariffs should be calculated on the basis of the methodology laid down in the European rules, then we avoid any possible “agreements”, he explained.
He believes that at present Russia „openly hints at the possibility of an agreement.“
“That is, they do not exclude the possibility of an agreement, but only on their terms,” the foreign minister stressed.
Earlier, the Ukrainian leader Petro Poroshenko said that after the completion of the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline, Russia could attack the Baltic countries‘ ships in the Baltic Sea.
As noted in „Naftogaz“, the actions of Germany, Russia and part of the „political community“ in Ukraine can lead to the cessation of gas transit through Ukraine.
