The car broker Uber will soon test food deliveries with drones. The company said yesterday that it has received permission from the authorities for trials in the Californian city of San Diego with real customers. Preparatory tests were already with the fast food chain McDonald’s.
The driver agent is already active in the food delivery business with Uber Eats and intends to offer flying taxis in the future with Uber Elevate. The company is therefore in a „unique position“ for food delivery with drones, said Uber manager Luke Fischer.
The drones will not fly the food directly to the clientele for the time being. Rather, Hamburgers, sushi and Co. should be taken by drone in a secure zone, where they are then picked up by a courier. In the long term, the drones should land on cars that are parked close to the customer.
