Italy has passed the two million CoV vaccine threshold, making it the EU country with the highest number of immunized people. Although the vaccination campaign, which has been running since December 27th, had to be slowed down due to delays in vaccine deliveries, several regions are already starting to vaccinate people over 80 years of age. So far, mainly health workers and patients in retirement homes have been vaccinated.

Agostino Miozzo, head of the Scientific Committee (CTS), which advises the government on coronavirus, called for vaccinations to be carried out in the workplace as soon as one starts vaccinating the population under 60 years of age. “Hundreds of people can be reached in many medium and large companies. That would make the vaccination campaign easier, ”said Miozzo.
First easing since yesterday

Italy eased its anti-coronavirus measures since yesterday. Eleven of the 20 Italian regions have been downgraded from orange to yellow, so restaurants are allowed to reopen during the day. Museums are also accessible and people are given more freedom to travel. This also applies to Lombardy, the region hardest hit by the pandemic. Fitness centers, indoor swimming pools, theaters and cinemas will remain closed.

After the announcement of the easing over the weekend, thousands of people in many Italian cities had flocked to the streets and parks. Virologists warned against negligent behavior. The danger is that there will be a third wave of infections before spring.
