US President Donald Trump has described the situation on the border with Mexico as a crisis and again demanded money for the construction of a controversial border wall. Speaking to the nation, he spoke of illegal immigration as a „growing humanitarian and security crisis“ on the southern border of the US. All Americans would be hurt by uncontrolled illegal immigration, Trump said.
The US President listed crimes of illegal immigrants. „How much blood do we have to shed before Congress does its job?“ Trump says. Too open a limit, he was responsible for drug problems as well as for missing jobs. All this is a crisis of the heart and a crisis of the soul. „This is the cycle of human suffering that I am determined to end.“
In the speech delivered live from the Oval Office, Trump called for a physical barrier at the border to remedy this situation. However, this could well be made of steel grids, he insisted on concrete.
Democrats speak of „wasting money“

No national emergency
In his speech, Trump refrained from declaring a national emergency because of the situation at the border – an option that he had brought into play in the past few days. By declaring a state of emergency, he could try to get billions for the required barrier, bypassing Congress. However, violent legal disputes would be expected for this approach.
The Wall is one of Trump’s most important campaign promises. Actually, Mexico should pay for it, but the country refuses. In Washington, Democrats would have to agree to use US taxpayers‘ money on the wall.
