After the investigation into the so-called Russia affair is over, US President Donald Trump has threatened to attack its initiators. In Washington, he strongly condemned her:
„We’ve been through something, bad things have happened, and these people are sure to be viewed.“
„Never do it to another president“
The people involved in the investigation lied to Congress, Trump continued. The entire investigation was based on „lying presentations“. „We can never do that to another president again.“
Other sounds suggested Trump about US special investigator Robert Mueller. He had behaved „honorable“. During the investigation, Trump repeatedly attacked Mueller and called his investigation „witch hunt“.
Four-page abstract published
After about two years of research, Mueller handed over the report to the Ministry of Justice at the end of last week. So far, Secretary William Barr has handed over a four-page summary to Congress. Mueller concludes that Trump’s campaign team in 2016 had no illegitimate contacts with Russia or cooperated with the Russian side during the presidential election campaign.
Trump then announced that he was „100 percent relieved“. So he has no problem with it if Barr publishes the full report:
„It is the decision of the Minister of Justice, but it would not bother me at all.“
Democrats want to question Barr in Congress
By doing this, Barr would also comply with Democrats‘ demands for full insight into the report. They also appealed to Barr to answer questions from the Congressional Justice Committee.
Because it was Barr’s decision that led Trump to fear nothing in the matter of judicial disability. That too was part of Mueller’s investigation. The focus here was the dismissal of former FBI chief James Comey.
Indications for and against disability
Mueller’s result spoke neither for nor against Trump, for both sides, the Special Investigator presented circumstantial evidence. In Barr’s summary of the report, Mueller’s view is reproduced in his own words:
„Although this report does not conclude that the president has committed a crime, he does not relieve him.“
So it was in Barr’s hands, whether the charges against Trump will be prosecuted. And Barr decided there was not enough evidence to prove Trump was a criminal.
„A present for 2020“
In Trump’s ranks the result of the report is celebrated. His spokeswoman Sarah Sanders commented in several television interviews. She told broadcaster NBC that „the Democrats and the liberal media owe the President and the American people an apology.“ And at Fox News, Sanders criticized the investigation as having „wasted $ 25 million in taxpayer money.“
Kellyanne Conway, one of Trump’s advisers, sees the result as an opportunity in the next presidential election. She wrote on Twitter that the report was „a present for 2020“.
