US President Donald Trump wants to make the conservative jurist Jeffrey Rosen the new Vice Minister of Justice and thus the successor of Rod Rosenstein. This announced the White House on Tuesday (local time).
Rosen is currently Deputy Minister of Transport. Rosenstein had overseen Russia investigations by special investigator Robert Mueller. Last week, when Trump’s proposed lawyer William Barr was confirmed by the US Senate as the new Minister of Justice, the withdrawal of Rosenstein was expected in March.
Rosen is a member of the Federalist Society, an association of very conservative lawyers. The association is alleged to seek a shift to the right in the US company through a penetration of the legal system. It includes, among others, the newly appointed by President Donald Trump Constitutional Judges Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh.
Already last September there had been media reports, according to which Rosenstein in 2017 – in the wake of the expulsion of the then FBI director James Comey – has proposed to secretly listen to Trump and initiate a process for premature dismissal of the President. Rosenstein had rejected that.
Mueller’s team investigates whether there were any collusion between Moscow and Trump’s electoral camp in the presumed Russian attempts to influence the 2016 presidential election. For Trump, the investigation is extremely unpleasant. He regularly scourges her as a „witch hunt“. Whether the supervision of the Russia investigations Mueller of Rosenstein on roses, or whether the supervision is taken over by Barr, is currently unclear.
