Und das muss aufhören.“
Das Geburtsortsprinzip ist in der Verfassung der Vereinigten Staaten festgeschrieben. Demnach bekommt jeder die amerikanische Staatsbürgerschaft, der in den USA geboren ist.
Trump sagte, man habe ihm immer erklärt, dass eine Verfassungsänderung nötig sei, um diese Regelung zu kippen. Dem sei aber nicht so. „Jetzt sagen sie, ich kann es auch mit einem präsidentiellen Erlass machen.“ Trump ließ offen, auf wen er sich beruft und auf welcher Annahme diese Einschätzung basiert.
