Even today, US President Donald Trump has not abandoned his demand for a border wall with Mexico. „99 percent of our illegal border crossings will end,“ Trump wrote on Twitter. He cited his predecessor, Barack Obama, and his campaign opponent Hillary Clinton, who also advocated better protection against illegal migration years ago.

…. The only reason they do not want to build a Wall is that Walls Work! 99% of our illegal Border crossings wants to get away, we want to save billions of dollars a year! A properly planned and constructed wall wants to pay for itself many times a year!

New meeting planned

During the day, Vice President Mike Pence wanted to meet representatives of Republicans and Democrats in Congress, as he did yesterday. Yesterday’s meeting had brought no progress. The House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, had stated several times that her party would not provide funds for building a wall in the budget.

Trump himself was supposed to hold talks with White House officials at the Camp David campground near Washington today. Reigning Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney invited the staff to a weekend getaway.

„Shutdown“ takes a good two weeks

The controversy surrounding the construction of the Wall has led to a partial shutdown, which has lasted more than two weeks. Hundreds of thousands of government employees currently have to work without immediate payment or have to take forced leave. Museums and national parks are closed. Millions of Americans have to wait longer than hoped for tax returns because the IRS is also affected.
