US President Donald Trump has confirmed an interest in buying Greenland. „That’s something we talked about,“ Trump told reporters yesterday. „The idea came up and I said that it is certainly strategically interesting and we would be interested.“
First, however, „a bit“ with Denmark on the subject must be spoken, Trump added. The issue is also not a top priority for his government.
When asked if he could exchange a US territory for Greenland, the president said that many things were possible. „Basically, it’s a big real estate business,“ explained the former real estate entrepreneur. Greenland costs Denmark a lot of money, 700 million dollars a year. „And strategically, it would be nice for the United States.“
Cancellation of Greenland
The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that Trump was fond of buying the island, which is an autonomous part of Denmark. The president is interested in the natural resources and geostrategic importance of the island northeast of Canada, the paper quoted the process as familiar circles.
However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the territory rejected the possible project: Greenland was not for sale.
