US President Donald Trump has stressed that dealing with the expected final report on the Russia investigation lies solely in the hands of new Justice Minister William Barr. The decision on what to do with the findings of Special Investigator Robert Mueller is entirely up to Barr, Trump said yesterday in Washington, adding, „He’s a great guy.“
The team around Mueller has been asking for almost two years if there were any collusion between Moscow and Trump’s electoral camp in the presumed Russian attempts to influence the 2016 presidential election. Already several people from Trumps direct environment were accused in the investigations and partly condemned.
The Ministry of Justice supervises the investigations. Mueller should hand over his investigation results confidentially to the Minister of Justice. He can then decide what information he will pass on to the US Congress. Whether and how the results will be available to the public is unclear. Barr had last left open exactly how he wants to proceed here.
CNN: US Justice before completion of Russia investigation
The US television station CNN previously reported, citing unspecified insiders, the Ministry of Justice expect already in the coming week with a degree from Mueller’s work. The Department of Justice and Mueller’s office refused to comment on the CNN report.
The US Senate had approved Trump’s proposed Barr just last week as the new Minister of Justice. He followed Jeff Sessions, whom Trump had forced out of office in November. As was recently known, Trump also exchanged Vice-Minister of Justice Rod Rosenstein. The president had complained about both Russia’s sessions and Rosenstein over supervision of the Russia investigation.
