
Apple wants to invest, according to President Donald Trump „huge sums of money“ in the US. The US and China have been in a fierce trade dispute for more than a year, with the world’s two largest economies overpowering each other with heavy punitive tariffs. Apple had filed a request with the US Trade Representative in July for a waiver of planned new tariffs to be levied on imports from China as of September 1. Certain components for the new Mac Pro, according to the Group can only be imported from China.
Trump did not want to allow exceptions. „Build it in the US, no customs duties!“ Trump tweeted in July with a view of the Apple components. On Thursday, however, the US government announced that it would postpone part of the planned new punitive tariffs on Chinese imports to December. Devices such as cell phones, laptops and game consoles are exempted from the penalty of ten percent until December 15th.
