The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan protested against the actions of the border service of Russia, whose employees fined two Japanese vessels fishing on the island of Kunashir in the southern Kuriles. It is reported RIA Novosti with reference to the agency Kyodo.
Russian border guards explained their actions by the revealed violations after checking the documents on two fishing vessels.
The Japanese Foreign Ministry called these actions unacceptable.

Earlier, after the first round of talks in Moscow on a peace treaty with Japan, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the issue of the sovereignty of the Kuril Islands is not being discussed.
