In Israel, thousands of people demonstrated yesterday against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic. A large number of people gathered in central Rabin Square in Tel Aviv, according to a reporter from the AFP news agency. Some held banners with slogans like „let’s breathe“. Most of the participants wore masks, but mostly the recommended distance of two meters was not observed.

The public television broadcaster Kan 11 spoke of several thousand participants. The police did not want to state the number of participants. It was deployed with around 300 officers to monitor compliance with the rules for protection against the novel corona virus.

Organizer locates „crisis of confidence“

The protest was organized by organizations of workers, freelancers and small businesses, and student organizations also took part. They accuse the government of being on their own after coronavirus restrictions were imposed. „There is a serious crisis of confidence between the government and us,“ said co-organizer Shai Berman of Israeli public broadcaster.
