Actually, the trade talks between the US and China should take only two days – now they were surprisingly extended. The two countries want to continue to search for solutions in the trade dispute.
A US government official confirmed that the negotiations in Beijing had continued in the morning. Both sides had actually only wanted to negotiate for two days. US President Donald Trump said the talks were „very good“.
The negotiators are struggling to find a solution in the months-long trade war that is disturbing the financial markets. However, the course of the talks has given investors some new courage. According to observers, a breakthrough is unlikely to be expected in Beijing. The first formal talks could pave the way for further negotiations.
Deadline expires on March 1st

On December 1, Trump and Xi had initially agreed only on a truce and further talks. The US deadline for the required Chinese courtesies expires on March 1st. By then, an announced $ 200 billion increase in US special duties on Chinese imports will be suspended from the current 10 percent to 25 percent. If there is no agreement, an escalation of the conflict threatens.
