Thousands of people protested in Prague against suspected fraud suspected Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš. The demonstration came after new allegations against the controversial politician had become known. Babiš’s son accuses his father of having taken him out of the country against his will, in order to obstruct investigations into alleged subsidy fraud.

The billionaire and former entrepreneur is accused of illegally plucking EU subsidies worth millions in 2007 with his company Agrofert. His 35-year-old son Andrej Babiš Jr. now told Czech media that his father’s employees had taken him to the Crimean peninsula against his will. This was intended to prevent him being questioned by the Czech police about the allegations of fraud.

The prime minister rejected the allegations of his son. He said his son was mentally ill and had schizophrenia. Andrei Babiš Jr. calls this a lie.

After the allegations became known, the Czech opposition parties joined forces to seek a vote of no confidence against the head of government. However, observers believe it unlikely that the opposition will succeed.
