At the Kapustin Yar test site in the Astrakhan region, various types of missiles are being tested, including for the Strategic Missile Forces, the Aerospace Forces, the Air Defense.
This was stated by the Chief of the Missile Forces and Artillery of the Armed Forces of Russia, Mikhail Matveyevsky.
“For the period from 2008 to 2014, more than 100 missiles of various purposes were conducted at the test site. At the same time, all launches of ground-to-ground missiles were conducted at a distance not exceeding the limitations provided for by the INF Treaty, ”he said during the briefing.
According to him, the exceptions are only launches of strategic missile facilities, notifications for which were sent by the United States under the 1982 Agreement.
In April 2018, the air defense forces of the Central Military District (TSO) successfully repulsed the “attack of 30 cruise and ballistic missiles” as part of an exercise at the Kapustin Yar testing ground in the Astrakhan Region. It is noted that 3.8 thousand servicemen took part in the exercises.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a press conference following talks with his colleague from Germany, Heiko Maas, spoke about the 9M729 missile tests in the INF Treaty. He stated that the American side was explained that „the tests were, the range was such and such, permitted by the contract.“
