The US Senate adjourned on Thursday just minutes after the start of Monday on Monday.
However, the budget law will not be negotiated again until January 2 at 4:00 pm local time, according to the Congress Chamber.
The so-called shutdown came into effect on Saturday night and paralyzed parts of the US government apparatus. It has the effect that around 800,000 state employees will not receive any salary for the time being.
Part of them are sent on unpaid leave. Hundreds of thousands of state employees whose work is considered indispensable must continue to do their jobs without pay
The main argument in the budget negotiations is the demand of US President Donald Trump after five billion dollars (4.39 billion euros) for the construction of a wall on the border with Mexico.
The opposition Democrats and also some of Trump’s Republicans strictly reject the demand. Before the Senate meeting on Thursday, Trump and the Democrats had again blamed each other for the „shutdown“.
