After the beginning of the strike of the security personnel at the airports of Cologne / Bonn, Dusseldorf and Stuttgart, passengers in Germany have to face considerable restrictions. At the airports Cologne / Bonn, Dusseldorf and Stuttgart, a warning strike by security personnel began during the night, as three union spokespersons of the dpa confirmed.
Numerous failures expected
Normally, about 110,000 passengers are on Thursdays at airports – for them, the work stoppages could have significant consequences. The impact of the strike was also expected at other airports. Among other things, the Berlin airports Tegel and Schönefeld expected with failures and delays. „Inform yourself before your arrival about the flight status with your airline,“ tweeted the Berlin Airport Service.
Hundreds of strikers demonstrated loudly with whistles and posters in the early morning hours at Düsseldorf Airport. Scoreboards showed numerous canceled flights. Stuttgart Airport warned its passengers about long waiting times. You should inform yourself in advance to plan more time before departure and to take as little hand luggage as possible.
Demanded uniform wage
The Verdi union demands a nationwide standard payment of 20 euros per hour for the 23,000 inspectors of passengers, freight, goods and airport employees. That would be a plus in the sometimes high double-digit percentage range – currently the payment varies depending on region and activity.
The employers offer according to own representation a plus of up to 6.4 per cent. For Verdi, that’s not enough – according to the union, this would only be an increase of 2 percent for the majority of employees.
