The „Iranian regime“ had not respected the visit of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and attacked the ships during its presence, one of them Japanese, said the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman the Arab newspaper „Al-Sharq al-Awsat“.
The two tankers had been damaged on Thursday in the Gulf of Oman. At the time, Abe was in Tehran to mediate in conflict with Iran. The „Front Altair“ of a Norwegian shipping company caught fire after explosions.
Also, the Japanese operator of „Kokuka Courageous“ reported two detonations. The backgrounds are so far completely unclear.
Even the US, a close ally of Saudi Arabia, blamed Iran for the alleged attacks, but so far no evidence has been found. Tehran rejects all guilt.
