While protests critical of the government continue unabated in Thailand, today thousands of supporters of the monarchy have marched in counter-demonstrations. Dressed entirely in yellow, the traditional color of the royal family, they wanted to demonstrate their loyalty to the institution with rallies in various provinces, as reported by the „Bangkok Post“.

For months, especially young demonstrators have been taking to the streets in the Southeast Asian country, who for the first time also question the role of the monarchy. This has long been a taboo in Thailand. The criticism concerns, among other things, a strict law that provides for long prison terms for lese majesty.

In addition, the democracy movement is demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, a new election and comprehensive reforms. A new demo was planned for today at the Victory Monument in central Bangkok.

King Maha Vajiralongkorn or Rama X. lives most of the time in Bavaria. He is currently in Thailand to take part in various ceremonies. Last week there were commemorations across the country for King Bhumibol, who died four years ago. Unlike his son, the popular monarch was still worshiped almost like god. Nevertheless, the monarchy still has many supporters today.
