Employees of Amazon in Germany have entered a strike lasting several days. Last night, employees at the sites in Bad Hersfeld, Koblenz, Rheinberg and Werne laid down work, as the service union ver.di announced. They wanted to emphasize their demands for a collective agreement and significant wage increases.
The business will be punished before the Easter holidays. Amazon assured its customers that their Easter orders would arrive, the „local strikes at isolated locations“ would have „no effect“.
Collective agreement required
Even at other locations, it could „come to work stoppages at any time during the Easter period,“ announced the service trade union.
For years, ver.di has been demanding payment for the Amazon employees of the online giant according to the tariffs of the retail trade. Amazon rejects this so far and emphasizes again and again, in its logistics centers are paid at the top of what is customary for comparable activities. Also in light of the new strikes, the company emphasized that it was a „fair and responsible employer“.
„Collective agreements are a sign of respect and recognition of work, which the employees also demand from Amazon,“ said ver.di board member Stefanie Nutzberger.
