The Universal Film Studio has canceled the theatrical release of „The Hunt“, an extremely brutal social satire, following the recent firearms raids on numerous deaths in the United States. „We understand that this is not the time to release this movie,“ Universal Pictures said yesterday.

The film with Oscar winner Hilary Swank in one of the main roles should come to the cinemas in the US at the end of September. It is about the deep divide between the social strata in the United States. The wicked satire shows rich citizens who, out of pure class stupidity in rural areas, use firearms to hunt down people from poor strata.

Criticism of „The Hunt“ also by Trump

Conservative circles had sharply criticized the film and called its originally planned theatrical release in view of the recent firearms attacks in El Paso and Dayton with a total of 31 dead as inappropriate.

US President Donald Trump joined this criticism. Without mentioning „The Hunt“ by name, he wrote in the Twitter short message service Friday that a new film shows that „liberal Hollywood is highly racist“. In Hollywood, the „true racists“ are settled, „and they are very bad for our country.“

Trump has been facing intense criticism of his often riotous and racist rhetoric since the El Paso and Dayton massacres. The 21-year-old attacker in El Paso had apparently acted for racist motives. After his arrest, he said he had deliberately shot at Mexicans.
