In the fight against the corona virus, Spain now wants to send all foreign travelers into a two-week quarantine. The regulation is due to enter into force on Friday and will continue until the end of the state of emergency, according to a government decree published today in the Spanish Official Journal.

The state of emergency currently applies until May 24th. If it is extended beyond this, the quarantine regulation continues to apply.

In Spain, according to the government, only cross-border commuters, goods transport personnel, airline staff and health workers are exempt from the quarantine requirement – provided that they had no contact with coronavirus infections before entering the country. In quarantine, those affected may only leave the house for shopping or doctor visits. You must also wear a mask.

Spain is one of the worst countries affected by the pandemic, with almost 27,000 deaths. At the beginning of the week, the first regions relaxed the strict exit restrictions. Around half of the 47 million inhabitants of Spain are now allowed to take to the streets again. The curfew will remain in the particularly affected capital Madrid, in Barcelona and in several provinces.
