Three years after her impeachment, former South Korean President Park Geun Hye was sentenced to a long prison term when she was renegotiated. However, the high court in Seoul today reduced the penalties that she had previously received for corruption and abuse of power, as well as in a separate trial for taking advantage of office, by ten to a total of 20 years.

Park had failed to fulfill its constitutional obligations and committed crimes that caused a great deal of confusion in state affairs, the national news agency Yonhap quoted the court. Park was involved in a major scandal during her reign that led to her impeachment in March 2017.
