Retirement home operators need more and more time to fill vacancies. And that should not change that fast. Because according to Federal Employment Agency, the shortage of skilled workers in the industry continues to increase.

In the opinion of the Federal Employment Agency (BA), nursing homes for the elderly in Germany must continue to focus on problems in filling vacant care jobs for the time being. The shortage of skilled labor in the industry has recently increased further, said the BA on the „day of care“.

Not enough applicants

There is now a nationwide shortage of skilled workers in this area. „In no federal state are sufficiently computationally unemployed applicants available in order to be able to occupy the offices reported to the Federal Agency,“ summarizes the Nuremberg federal authority in an analysis. However, this applies only to examinated nursing professionals, not for elderly carers

According to Federal agency data, in the average age of care for the elderly in 2018 around 3100 unemployed skilled workers accounted for around 15,300 vacancies. The result: In the meantime, it would take 183 days for home operators to re-appoint a vacant foster home, twelve days longer than in 2017.
