The Covid-19 vaccine from the Chinese biotech company Sinovac Biotech has been approved for the general public by the Chinese Medicines Agency. The approval is based on two-month results from a late-stage clinical trial overseas, Sinovac said. However, the final analysis data are not yet available.
Sinovac’s vaccine is the second vaccine to be approved for public use in China. A CoV vaccine from the Chinese state-owned company Sinopharm had already been approved in December.
Before they were approved, both vaccines were used in China’s vaccination program, which is primarily aimed at particularly vulnerable groups of people.
