The South Korean Supreme Court has overturned the sentencing of ex-president Park Geun Hye to 25 years in prison. The judges ordered today in Seoul that the case must be renegotiated. Park was sentenced to 24 years in prison last April for corruption and abuse of power, and an appeals court later extended the sentence for another year.

The Supreme Court said the allegations of corruption should have been negotiated in a separate trial. Therefore, the entire case will be remanded back to the competent court in Seoul.

Millions illegally cashed

Park was relieved of office at the end of 2016. In court, the 67-year-old was found guilty of several companies illegally converted about 18 million euros received or agreed to have received. She also passed on secret documents and dismissed critical officials. In addition to the 25 years in jail, Park was fined 20 billion won (15 million euros).
