After the murder of Gdańsk Mayor Pawel Adamowicz during a charity event, Polish authorities arrested a man responsible for the security of the celebration. Dariusz S. had made „false statements“ about the circumstances of the attack, said today the Polish judiciary.
He has given the police a press card to disguise negligence in the security arrangements, said a spokeswoman for the prosecutor. According to initial findings, the attacker Stefan W. „during his act did not carry such a card with him,“ added the spokeswoman. Dariusz S. was also accused of having pushed a colleague of his security service to the false statement. If convicted, he faces up to eight years imprisonment.
Suspicious Stefan W. allegedly stabbed Adamowicz on the open stage during a charity event. One day later, the mayor succumbed to his serious injuries. According to media reports, the 27-year-old perpetrator has been sentenced to more than five years in prison for armed robbery. He had increasingly suffered from mental health problems in prison. A preliminary investigation into murder was initiated against him.
